John Gower

John Gower is another Medieval poet and is considered a contemporary of Chaucer and the Pearl Poet. We need to keep in mind that texts were not primarily written in English until the time of these poets. They essentially shaped the trajectory for English literature as we know it.

Gower is famous for three poems, one of them in English called Confessio Amantis which was commissioned by Richard II.
